Short Description: A teaching assistant provides support to the lead classroom teacher, allowing the teacher to spend more time focusing on classroom instruction. Teaching Assistants perform many different tasks such as one on one attention with struggling students, monitoring the classroom anytime the full-time teacher is out, grading assignment, and integrating different technology into the classroom. Being a teaching assistant is a very rewarding career that provides the joy of teaching without the extensive academic training. Working as a teaching assistant is also a wonderful starting career for those looking to advance to a full-time teacher. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, teacher assistants make an average annual salary of $24,900 per year and can expect a job growth rate of 6% through 2024.
What’s in this Program? This complete training program is comprised of ten individual courses that prepare students for an entry level position as a teaching assistant. In this program, we will cover child & adolescent development, child health, safety, and nutrition, classroom management, SMARTboard training, and the career of teacher assisting. Successfully completing this program will give students the necessary skills and knowledge to become a successful teaching assistant and prepare students to sit for the ETS’ ParaPro Assessment Certification exam. States may require additional education and experience for employment.

Instructor Description: Though this program is a self-paced program it is supported by an educational mentor. Educational mentors are subject matter experts who have years of experience in their field as well as the necessary educational training and credentials to work as an expert. The mentor is available to answer any questions a learner may have including questions on course content, course material, certifications, and even industry questions. Mentors also monitor the progress of learners to ensure training retention and program advancement. In eLearning, motivation is a key tool to success. Because of this, mentors provide encouraging comments, feedback, and coaching to motivate learners throughout the duration of the program to support completion and success!
Certification: Upon successful completion this course, students will be prepared for an entry-level position in the field and to sit for the ETS’ ParaPro Assessment Certification exam. Each state may have additional licensing requirements, be sure to research your states requirements for employment by visiting your states occupation board.
