Neighbor Week

Kindness Lives Here
Join us in celebrating Neighbor Week in honor of what would have been Fred Rogers’s 98th birthday on March 20. We have events celebrating kindness and neighborliness March 16-20. We think Mr. Rogers would approve of Laurel Ridge’s mission to provide a positive, caring and dynamic learning environment that inspires student success, values diversity and promotes community vitality!
Help Your Neighbors
In exchange for a donation – of an amount of your choosing – you are welcome to wear your comfiest pair of jeans all week. These donations will be split among three beneficiaries:
- TRiO – For those wishing to make non-monetary donations, here is a listing of suggested items for the TRiO pantry: proteins, such as canned tuna and chicken; peanut butter; bread; cereal; cooking oils; cleaning supplies; laundry detergent; dryer sheets; dish soap
- Employee Emergency Assistance Fund
- Parent Scholars Program
Buy a Shirt
Additionally, you can purchase a T-shirt designed by Larry Friedenberg, with proceeds – about $9 for each shirt – going to the Laurel Ridge Educational Foundation.
It’s a Beautiful Potluck in the Neighborhood
On Tuesday, March 17, bring your favorite dish, snack, dessert or activity to share as you welcome your coworkers to come visit your neighborhood (department) for Neighborhood Bites & Delights between 11:45 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Explore Your Neighborhood
Take a walk with your work neighbors!
- Luray-Page County Center – 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 17. Meet at the welcome desk for a walk down the sidewalk to the corner of Allison and General Drive led by Judy Suddith.
- Fauquier Campus – noon, Tuesday, March 17. Meet in front of The Barn and walk through the buildings and outside along the connector trail with Kerry Kilpatrick and Nick Shomo as your guides.

Celebrate with Your Neighbors
Join us for Neighbor Day Cardigans and Cupcakes at noon on Wednesday, March 18. We’d love to take group pictures of employees in Mr. Rogers’s favorite item of clothing, a cardigan. Meet in Cornerstone Hall behind the information desk on the Middletown Campus, and in Wolk Hall near the information desk at the Fauquier Campus.
