Do Empathy Film Series: Without a Whisper Online
The Do Empathy Film Series is an opportunity to virtually watch short films that inspire compassion and understanding towards other. After each online screening, our own Laurel Ridge sociology students will host discussion that encourages participants to reflect upon the diversity of human experiences.
On Thursday, November 30th, we will host two screenings of the short film, Without a Whisper, a documentary that discusses the overlooked impact of Indigenous women in America’s history.
Participants are welcome to join through Zoom to watch the screenshared film, then participate or observe as our students generate discussion.
More on Without a Whisper (26 mins.):
The contact that the early suffragists had with Haudenosaunee women in New York state shaped their thinking and had a vital impact on their struggle for equality that is taken for granted today. The film follows Mohawk Bear Clan Mother Louise Herne and Professor Sally Roesch Wagner as they seek to correct the historical narrative about the origins of women’s rights in the United States.
