History of the AAS Program

The Associates in Applied Science Degree (AAS) in Nursing was established and approved by Virginia Board of Nursing July 2000. In Fall 2000, the nursing program admitted forty-nine students.

In 2001, the program was approved to admit Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) with the desire to pursue their AAS degree. Thirteen LPN students, along with twenty-seven students, continued in the program.

In 2002, twenty-nine students graduated the program. The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCLEX) pass rate for the first cohort was 72.4%.

Over time, the program continued to grow. In 2004, the Fauquier Campus offered an AAS in Nursing Program. The AAS program admitted twenty students in Fall 2004. In addition to the first group of twenty students, ten LPN students joined the traditional students.

History of the Science and Health Professions Building

In Fall of 2005, Laurel Ridge broke ground for the building. In Fall of 2008, the Science and Health Professions building was officially opened to students.
