Electrical Apprenticeship, Journeyman, and Licensure Program

This full Electrical program contains the hours and content to satisfy the educational requirements for Electrical registered apprenticeships, as well as the educational requirements to obtain state Electrical licensure, and Electrical Journeyman status through the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulations (DPOR) in Virginia. There are four levels (Electrical Levels 1 – 4) offered, however depending on the students’ needs and occupational experience, not all four levels may be necessary.

Students entering the Level 1 Electrical class do not need prior coursework or industry experience. Students also do not need to be currently working for an Electrical employer to start this program. The program is structured as a hybrid class, with a combination of both classroom and hands-on lab training, as well as an online program content. Students will attend classes no more than one evening per week. Many students successfully work full time and part time while attending the program. The Level 1 class introduces students to basic safety, introduction to construction math, hand tools, power tools and an orientation to the electrical trades and electrical safety skills.

As students’ progress into the higher levels of the Electrical programs, (Levels 2 – 4) students will learn about electrical circuits, electrical controls, introduction to the National Electrical Code (NEC), device boxes, hand bending, raceways and fittings, conductors and cables, reading and interpreting electrical construction drawings and schematics, residential electrical service skills, electrical test equipment and all Electrical and code and permitting regulations.
