Claude Moore Scholars

Dr. Claude Moore was a successful physician and landowner in Northern Virginia who left most of his wealth in trust in order to enhance educational opportunities in Virginia and beyond. The Claude Moore Charitable Foundation was established in 1987.

The Claude Moore Scholars Program, launched in 2007, was forged from Dr. Moore’s lifelong charitable endeavors. The program focuses on broadening perspectives and opportunities in early education intervention to encourage students to pursue high demand, entry-level healthcare careers. The Claude Moore Charitable Foundation works with community-based organizations, community health educators, and parents of PreK-12 students to promote early interest in careers in the health sciences field. Many courses are dual enrolled through the college and provide students an opportunity to begin their journey on the health sciences highway. Many students earn a health-care credential while still in high school. Students throughout the service region can become a Claude Moore Scholar by participating in a funded program. Funded programs vary by school division, and some are also offered at the college.
