At Laurel Ridge Community College, we believe every student’s journey is a story of possibility, and in a recent “Valley Today” episode hosted by Janet Michael, we celebrated two graduates who have that spirit. Joined by public relations coordinator Sally Voth, Maria Valle and Mary Herter Nelson shared how our college supported their growth and ambitions.

Maria, who moved from Argentina to Warrenton in 2022, found opportunity close to home and thrived while studying Administration of Justice in a second language. She is now preparing to transfer to Shenandoah University, driven by a passion for serving Spanish-speaking communities through victim advocacy.

Mary’s journey reflects the power of taking that first step. Once hesitant to enroll, she quickly became a campus leader, founding the Dance Club, serving as a student ambassador and building lasting connections through student life programs.

Both graduates found encouragement in our faculty, staff and support services. Their experiences highlight the importance of staying open to new opportunities and leaning on a strong support system. As Maria and Mary move forward, their stories remind us that Laurel Ridge is more than a place to earn a degree; it’s a place to build a future. Congrats to the Class of 2026!
