Laurel Ridge Community College made its regular appearance on The River 95.3’s radio show, The Valley Today, Brandy Boies, our director of public relations and special events, and retired U.S. Army Major Jason Hatch, discussed the latest issue of The Laureate magazine, which highlights veterans and is a reflection of our commitment to honoring the diverse community that makes up our college.

Brandy shared the inspiration behind The Laureate. What started as a project during the pandemic has blossomed into a beloved publication. Each issue showcases different aspects of Laurel Ridge, from alumni stories to health professions. The magazine aims to celebrate the wide range of opportunities available to our students and alumni.

Jason also shared his personal journey of education after retiring from the Army. Initially seeking art therapy to process his experiences, Jason discovered a greater passion for it at Laurel Ridge. He spoke highly of the individualized support and quality education he received here. Beyond academics, Jason is also making a difference in the world, working with Operation Snow Leopard, a nonprofit dedicated to helping Afghan refugees.

Jason’s story reinforces a key message we’re passionate about at Laurel Ridge: it’s never too late to pursue your passions. Whether it’s through art, community service, or any other path, we believe in providing a supportive environment for everyone—especially veterans—who wants to reignite their interests and explore new opportunities.
