More than 40 healthcare-related employers and university representatives will be meeting with attendees of the fourth annual Focus on Health:  Employment and Education Fair Thursday, April 6 in the Corron Community Center on Laurel Ridge’s Middletown Campus.

The fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m, and is open to both the Laurel Ridge student body and the community at large, said Shelley Bowers, a career services and online advisor with Laurel Ridge. Job interviews can be conducted during the fair, she said.

“It’s specifically focused on the health professions and continuing education in the health field,” Bowers said. “They’re all employers that are hiring currently for healthcare positions. We had students hired on the spot last year.”

Employers coming to the fair include Consulate Health Care of Woodstock, Fauquier Health, Greenfield Senior Living, Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center, Shenandoah Valley Westminster-Canterbury, Valley Health and The Willows at Meadow Branch.

Besides Laurel Ridge and Laurel Ridge Workforce Solutions, educational institutions will include Eastern Mennonite University, George Mason University, James Madison University, American Public University, Old Dominion University, Shenandoah University and the University of Virginia.

In addition to helping the general public in their job search, the fair is a way to expose Laurel Ridge’s health professions students to a range of employers.

“We want them to stay here, we want them to work here, and we want them to boost our local economy,” Bowers said. “So, if we can bring this to them, we can help them in those endeavors.”
