About USACE MED

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Middle East District can trace its roots directly back to the early 1950s, when the Corps of Engineers was working overseas, in the Mediterranean and Middle East regions. Since then, the headquarters structure and location have changed several times moving to the Frederick County, Virginia, region in the 1970s. But throughout these changes, the mission has remained constant: Provide engineering design and construction management services to deployed U.S. forces, other U.S. government agencies and allied host nations in the region.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recognizes the critical role that Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics education plays in enabling the U.S. to remain the economic and technological leaders of the global marketplace, and enabling the Department of Defense and Army in the security of our Nation.  The District is committed to teaming with others to strengthen STEM-related programs that inspire current and future generations of young people to pursue careers in STEM fields. The District supports local communities through the individual efforts and activities of its employees throughout the Shenandoah Valley. Organizationally, the District supports and hosts local STEM events, including Day with an Engineer, for high school students, engaging students through guest speaker opportunities, science fair judging and MATHCounts proctoring, to ensure a STEM-enriched future for our Nation.
