DESCRIPTION:Undergraduate Research Opportunities for Transfer Students – Featuring Dr. Valerie Olmo\, director of undergraduate studies in the Biology Department at George Mason University \nPresenter: Dr. Valerie Olmo \nValerie Olmo is a Term Associate Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Biology Department at George Mason University. She holds a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Johns Hopkins University and has postdoctoral research experience from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. In addition to teaching Cell and Developmental Biology\, she is dedicated to using innovative teaching methods to enhance students’ understanding of cell biology and mentoring students as they navigate career choices post-graduation. \n \nHost: Dr. Ian Hare \nBiology Professor Ian Hare teaches General Biology and Microbiology within the School of STEM at Laurel Ridge. An alumnus of Laurel Ridge\, Dr. Hare continued his education at James Madison University\, earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He then obtained a Ph.D. in Immunology and Microbial Pathogenesis from West Virginia University\, focusing his research on the effects of chemotherapeutic stress on stromal components of the bone marrow microenvironment.
